As they were talking they had been walking towards the center of town. Daleth was relieved that Kendra was an ally. He might need her help.
As for what he was going to do, he did not know the details. He was a big picture guy anyway. He was going to offer his services, for free, to anyone who needed it. That's really all he knew.
His hopes were rewarded. There was a beggar who sat on the ground near the fountain. Daleth approached him.
"Excuse me, but do you need any help?" asked Daleth politely.
The man looked at him strangely.
"What I needed is either a job that a crippled man can do or money for a healing."
"I can't bring you a job but I can perform a healing." said Daleth.
"Look at me!" The man laughed, "Do I look like I have that kind of money?"
Daleth felt a tinge of annoyance at the widespread effect of the corruption.
"No charge. I'll do it for free." said Daleth.
The man still seemed skeptical.
"What's the catch?"
"No catch."
"For real? You aren't just a hoax?"
"No. If I were a hoax, I would be charging. Here, let me show you." said Daleth.
The man reluctantly pulled away a bandage on his left leg. Deep scars which were scabbed over and had probably been infected blackened his leg.
"Got attacked by some sort of wolf or something." said the hurt man, "Barely managed to get back to the town. Fell asleep and when I woke up it was all numb, and it's just been getting worse ever since."
Daleth grimaced. The wound wasn't pretty, but definitely in his power to heal. He kneeled, placing his hands just above the scars. His hands began glowing faintly.
"Let what power that has been given to me flow into this man," began Daleth, "so that no longer will he be plagued by this wound." he muttered.
A kind of light mist settled from his hands onto the wound. He concentrated, focusing the power into a concentrated spray of light. The man looked up at Daleth.
"That tickles!" the man said, then realized what he said, "Hey, it tickles! I can feel my leg again!"
More people were gathering around now, watching the spectacle.
It was over in about another minute. Daleth helped the man to stand. The man wobbled for a second, then gained his balance. He shook Daleth's hand vigorously and took off into the streets, yelling about what had happened as he went. Daleth grinned. Whatever punishment might come from his actions, this was what made it all worth it: immediate fruit of his charitable actions.

Kendra smiled as the healed man ran off. It was strange, she remembered healings happening it the streets before with no one taking notice. She had come here to seek the peace she once found in that, but this was obviously a different place. She then noticed a small face in the crowd, a boy with his arm in a sling. She moved forward and all of the people around him shied away, but the boy stayed still. She smiled reassuringly at him and gently placed her hand on his shoulder. With her eyes closed, she sent her healing energy to the boy. It was a small tear in a ligament and healed quickly. There was a sudden shriek of realization from the apparent mother of the boy as she snatched him away and hurried down the street.

Daleth caught the woman's attention as she hurried away.
"Wait, please." he said. She stopped. The boy looked at him.
"Here, catch." said Daleth, tossing a coin out to the boy. He caught it out of pure reflex, his arm shooting out of the sling as he did so. THe mother's eyes widened as she realized that the arm that had been crippled only moments ago was now holding a coin and tossing it lightly. The boy smiled. The woman looked at Daleth and was about to step forward likely to thank him but he pointed towards Kendra.
"It was she who healed him." said Daleth. More people watched in awe. Pretty soon people would be bringing hurt and sick people from all over town. How long could they keep this up before they became exhausted or, quite possibly, be arrested? As long as they needed to, he supposed.

Essey stood watching the whole thing, stroking Lana pleasently. Some people gave her wierd looks but passed by. She was really just there to make sure that nothing happened to Daleth and Kendra- she couldn't help in the healing after all. She stayed back, not knowing exactly what to do.
"That's a big kitty you have there, lady!" said an enthusiastic young boy, reaching out his hand.
Lana seemed uncomfortable, but Essey stroked her in such a way to tell her it was all right. She showed the boy how to pet her. Lana purred softly, contented.
This side of Lana was completely different from that of which she used when they were threatened or when she felt uncomfortable. It was amazing how something so calm could turn so fierce in seconds. Like what might happen if officers began approaching Daleth and Kendra. They were Essey's friends and thus, Lana's friends, so Lana would protect them like she would Essey, which meant with tooth and claw and probably to the death.

Kendra was happy to use her skills to help all who needed her here, but there were so many. With each healing, she felt her strength slowly ebbing away. "Perhaps we won't be arrested," she thought, "they'd surely be here by now. Everyone else is." She then glanced over at Essey, who was showing a child her lovely cat. She then felt a hand on her shoulder and turned. A man dressed in a uniform with a crest, the crest of the city. This man was a guard of some sort, but before she could react, he spoke. "Please, my daughter is ill," he pointed to a woman holding an infant. Kendra smiled with relief and went about healing the small girl.

Daleth breathed a sigh of relief as Kendra was not under any threat from the guard. Maybe nothing would happen afterall. Though he was running low on magic power, ad there were still many people left needed for healing. He still had his Ether, if he needed it. He certainly might soon.
Then he saw something strange as a young girl was brought to him. He saw litle pointed wedges beyond the buildings. Then he realized they weren't pointed wedges, but the ends of spears! His heart lurched as a line of guards rounded the corner, led by a flustered priest.
"What is this!" the priest demanded.
"This," replied Daleth as the soldiers cut him off from the people and from Essey and Kendra, encircling him, "is a healing."
"This is an outrage!" the priest yelled.
"The only outrage is you charging tremendous prices for acts of charity!" shot Daleth back.
An officer stepped forward.
"I think you had just better explain what is going on. From the beginning." said the officer.

Kendra gasped as the guards descended. There were so many, just for this one small healing. She then heard Daleth's voice raised in defiance, although she could not hear his words through the wall of soldiers. She looked at the harsh faces around her and wondered if they had been here when this place wasn't tainted so. One guard's shell cracked for a split second and the shadow of compassion crossed his face, but it was gone before she was even certain it had happened. She memorized his features, incase she needed assistance at any point.

Urick saw the group of people being surounded by guards, he watched and waited if any thing was to happen, his distance from them was not safe but his nice spot in the tree was fine. He drew his axe and stood up, ready to help them if they needed.

Lana growled as Essey stepped forward, drawing her sword.
"They are doing good, much more good than you ever did." Essey said to the man, then said to the guard, "If you want to harm them in any way you'll have to go through me first!"

Urick stood up, holding on to a branch and watched as the girl went face to face at the solder. Urick held his axe tightly waiting to help the travelers.

Kendra turned to the gaurd that she had noted earlier and calmly asked, "please, what is our crime?" another gaurd reached over and attempted to smack her, but she blocked it. Under normal circumstances, she would have retorted with an attack of her own, but she thought it to be inappropriate under these circumstances.

The commander glared at the guard who had tried to strike Kendra. He also looked at Essey, sternly, but not unkindly or contemptuously.
"I understand your concern, and admire your courage. But, know that it would not be a wise move to oppose us in our objectives." he said.
"I'd like to know our crime as well." Daleth said.
"That... is what we are here to find out. Like I said, you had better explain the whole thing. This esteemed brother has already given his side... but I insisted on hearing your side before making any potential judgement calls."
"That was kind of him..." Daleth thought.
As Daleth explained the situation, starting all the way back from his family occupancy and his travels in rural Midru, the ones who he healed returning his charity, his arrival in Port Boggart, and went into lots of detail specifically when he came to encounters with the priest, Kendra, and Essey. When he was finally done, the officer waited for a moment, considering what he had heard.
"You must understand... That not everyone has the same generositiy here as those in the villages you usually go to. Have those you healed, now, given you anything in return for your efforts?"
The question surprised Daleth.
"Well, no... but they have naught to give... that they do not need... but their gratitude, which they are giving, and that is food for the soul." he said.
The officer blinked.
"I wish the world had the same empathy as you. If it did, then all the world's problems would be solved."
Daleth silently received the compliment.
"But, I would also like to hear your story," he looked at Kendra, "and yours," to Essey, "Before I decide anything."

This ius going to take a while, Thought Urick listenig to the travelers stories. He let his axe hang over the tree as URick made himself a seat on the branch. He picked uphis helmet and put it on, covering his face completly.
When The priest finihed his story he looked to the others. Urick picked his axe back up, but at the moment he picked it up the branch it was hanging on was choped and it fell to the ground with a thump infront of a guard. The guard looked at the branch, then looked up at Urick. And yelled "Spy!"

Daleth looked in slight annoyance at the guard and the newcomer.
"Well, this is a public place, and we've managed to draw quite a crowd already. We're not here to question his choice of seating." said Daleth facetiously to the guard, then turned back to the Officer and Essey and Kendra.

She looked at the man, a bit startled, and couldn't help a slight smile at the gaurd's response. She then began with her story. When she got to the bit about her uncle, the officer seemed to intensify his stare. "You know of my uncle, Ivan Rede?" she asked eagerly. He gave a grave nod and told her to continue with her story, ignoring her questions of his well-being. She finished, and he asked the same questions of payment, and she answered that she wanted none. She then turned her attention to Essey.
